Oyo State Pillar of Sports and Chairman of the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation, Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, has congratulated Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) following their hard-fought 1–0 victory over Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie.
The Oluyole Warriors secured the narrow victory on Saturday, September 5, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
The victory marked Shooting Stars' return to continental football after a 27-year absence, with the Ibadan-based club making their comeback on a winning note.
Reacting to the result, Obideyi, a passionate supporter and committed admirer of the Oluyole Warriors, expressed delight with the team's performance, particularly against a CS Sfaxien side with considerable continental pedigree.
Speaking with OyoSportsNews after the encounter, Obideyi commended the players, Head Coach Salisu Yusuf, and the management led by Executive Chairman Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami, describing the victory as a deserved reward for the team's collective effort.
He praised the players for their tactical discipline, technical execution, determination and impressive teamwork throughout the encounter, saying Shooting Stars demonstrated the quality and character required to compete at the continental level.
According to Obideyi, the 1–0 scoreline could have been more convincing had the Oluyole Warriors converted some of the opportunities that came their way.
He, however, expressed satisfaction with the overall performance and the clean sheet secured against the experienced Tunisian outfit.
Obideyi expressed optimism that Shooting Stars can complete the job in Tunisia and advance to the next round of the competition.
He urged the technical crew to quickly address the team's shortcomings, particularly in front of goal, before the return fixture.
He also charged the players to remain focused, disciplined and committed, stressing that the advantage from the first leg must be approached with maturity and determination.
Obideyi further prayed for an injury-free encounter in Tunisia, expressing confidence that with the right mentality, tactical discipline and collective effort, the Oluyole Warriors can successfully defend their advantage and continue their long-awaited continental journey.
The return leg is scheduled to take place in Tunisia on September 13, with Shooting Stars seeking to protect their first-leg advantage and secure progression in the CAF Confederation Cup.
