The planned promotion of Nurudeen Yusuf, aide-de-camp (ADC) to President Bola Tinubu, to the rank of brigadier-general was reportedly shelved at the last minute after intervention by two former chiefs of army staff, TheCable has learned.
Yusuf, who was promoted to the rank of colonel only last January, was set to receive a “special presidential promotion” on Monday evening.
Under standard military procedure, an officer must serve as a colonel for at least four years and attend the National Defence College (NDC) before being considered for further promotion. The proposed promotion would have bypassed these requirements.
The approval for the accelerated promotion was communicated through a letter from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to the Chief of Army Staff. Following the intervention, the promotion plan was reportedly halted.
