The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Gift Amos, a resident of Lugbe, Abuja, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour following an argument over the use of a shared compound space.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 4, while the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Division on September 7.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the disagreement began after the victim, identified as Mrs Beauty Monday, moved a pot of boiling water belonging to the suspect from a stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her.

Adeh said the action allegedly angered Amos, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured the boiling water on Monday's back.

The victim sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention, according to the police.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect had been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned until September 16, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.

Sanusi also cautioned residents against resorting to self-help or violence during disputes, stressing the importance of using lawful and peaceful means to resolve conflicts.

The command further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.

The police said investigations and legal proceedings in the matter are ongoing.
