Former Ogun State governorship aspirant and veteran journalist, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying she is taking the next step in her political journey.

Sarafa-Yusuf announced her resignation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in a statement posted on her official X account, @modelesy.

In the statement titled “Moving Forward,” she said she arrived at the decision after an extended period of travelling, spending time with her family and engaging in what she described as “thought and quiet reflection.”

“I have decided to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Sarafa-Yusuf stated.

She added that she had informed the APC leadership in Ogun State and submitted her resignation letter.

According to the former governorship aspirant, her time in the APC had been an important part of her political journey, expressing gratitude for the relationships, experiences and lessons gained during her time in the party.

She, however, stressed that her resignation should not be interpreted as an abandonment of public service.

“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey,” she wrote.

Sarafa-Yusuf said her commitment to public service remains undiminished, adding that she would continue to be guided by the values of service, integrity, inclusion and competence.

She explained that she would return to her professional and business commitments after her holiday while taking time to determine the direction of the next phase of her political engagement.

The resignation comes months after Sarafa-Yusuf declared her intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election on the platform of the APC. She ultimately lost the party's nomination to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

Although her resignation follows the conclusion of the APC's governorship nomination process, Sarafa-Yusuf did not state in her resignation announcement that losing the ticket was the reason for her departure. Instead, she framed the decision around personal reflection and reassessing how best to continue contributing to Ogun State and Nigeria.

She concluded her statement by wishing the APC and its members well.

Sarafa-Yusuf's resignation now leaves her next political destination uncertain as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
