IBADAN — The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has announced plans to organise a media chat for Ibadan indigenes contesting various elective political positions, providing an opportunity for candidates to present their programmes and policy priorities to the electorate.
The decision was disclosed during the Council’s August General Assembly meeting held at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
Speaking at the meeting, the President-General of CCII, Chief Barrister Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, said all Ibadan indigenes seeking elective offices would be invited to participate in the proposed media engagement.
According to him, the initiative is designed to give candidates an opportunity to clearly explain their plans for improving the welfare and living conditions of the people they seek to represent.
Chief Ajewole explained that media organisations would also be invited to cover the engagement, stressing that the proceedings would provide a documented record of the commitments and promises made by the candidates.
He noted that such documentation would enable the electorate and relevant stakeholders to hold elected representatives accountable if they subsequently deviate from the programmes and commitments presented to the public during their campaigns.
The CCII President-General described the proposed media chat as an important platform for strengthening interaction between political candidates and the electorate, allowing voters to engage directly with those seeking their mandate.
Ajewole Urges CCII Members to Remain Non-Partisan
Earlier during the meeting, Chief Ajewole urged CCII members holding key positions in the council
to remain committed to the ideals and interests of the Council rather than allowing partisan political considerations to influence their responsibilities.
He emphasised the importance of preserving the Council as an umbrella organisation for Ibadan indigenes, irrespective of political affiliation.
Akere Reappointed Chairman of 2027 Ibadan Cultural Festival Committee
Meanwhile, the President-General disclosed that Mogaji Moshood Gbolagade Akere, who served as Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival, has been reappointed to chair the committee for the 2027 edition.
Chief Ajewole attributed the decision to the achievements recorded during the 2026 festival, noting that Mogaji Akere demonstrated effective leadership and delivered a successful cultural programme.
He expressed confidence that the reappointment would provide continuity and further strengthen the organisation of the 2027 Ibadan Cultural Festival.
The development is expected to consolidate the gains of the 2026 edition while providing an opportunity for the Council to build on its efforts to promote, preserve and project the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
