The Yejide Old Girls Association (YOGA), the alumni association of Yejide Girls Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, has posthumously honoured its late President, Chief Mrs. Oluwakemi Sarumi, in recognition of her outstanding service and unwavering commitment to the association.
The honour was conferred during the Fundraising Luncheon, one of the key events of the week-long activities marking the 70th Anniversary of Yejide Girls Grammar School. The luncheon took place at Felicia Hall, Jogor Centre, Liberty Road, Ibadan, and was attended by distinguished alumni, invited guests, and stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the current President of YOGA, Mrs. Moji Giwa-Osagie, described the late Chief Mrs. Oluwakemi Sarumi as a devoted and selfless leader who committed her time, energy, and personal resources to the growth of the association. She also appreciated the Sarumi family for their continued support of YOGA despite her demise.
The posthumous award was presented by the Second Vice President, Chief Mrs. Omotunde Lawson, who noted that the invaluable roles played by the late President remain indelible in the history of the association.
Other honourees at the event included Mrs. Abiodun Obaakin (née Dende) of the 1969–1973 set, who served as the Chief Launcher and was present to receive her award, as well as Alhaja Ajoke Sokunbi (née Ajala) of the 1970–1974 set.
Additional posthumous awards were presented in honour of the following distinguished women who made significant contributions to the school and its legacy:
Mrs. Victoria Adebekun – First Nigerian Principal of Yejide Girls Grammar School (1966–1972)
Mrs. Morenikeji Adepoju (née Agbaje) – 1972–1976 set
Mrs. Olutola Daniel (née Morakinyo) – 1968–1972 set
Mrs. Idowu Olubunmi Adejunmo (née Martins) – 1978–1983 set
The Fundraising Luncheon was chaired by Barrister Delayo Oriekun of the 1978–1983 set, whose leadership contributed significantly to the success of the event.
The occasion was both reflective and celebratory, underscoring YOGA’s commitment to preserving its rich heritage and honouring women whose service has left lasting footprints in the history of Yejide Girls Grammar Schoo
