The Governor of the Oyo State Chapter of the Agbekoya Farmers’ Society of Nigeria, Chief Ashagidigbi Olatunde Bello, has expressed profound grief over the passing of the National Secretary-General of the Society, Dr. Adegbenro Ogunlana, who passed on in Lagos after a courageous battle with death.
In an emotion-laden condolence message made available to the press, Chief Ashagidigbi described the late Dr. Ogunlana, who lived and worked in Lagos, as “the intellectual soul, moral compass and tireless engine of Agbekoya’s national struggle for justice, equity and farmers’ dignity.”
“We have lost a colossus,” Chief Ashagidigbi declared.
“Dr. Adegbenro Ogunlana was vibrant in thought, eloquent in expression, courageous in conviction and unwavering in service. He carried the burden of Agbekoya on his shoulders with uncommon grace, clarity and commitment.”
The Oyo Agbekoya Governor noted that the late National Secretary-General served the Society with rare discipline and passion, standing firm even in the face of intimidation and adversity.
“Until his last breath, he spoke truth to power, defended the oppressed farmer and upheld the founding ideals of Agbekoya. He fought not for personal glory, but for collective survival and justice,” he added.
Chief Ashagidigbi described Dr. Ogunlana as a bridge-builder whose administrative brilliance strengthened unity across state chapters, while his fearless advocacy gave Agbekoya renewed national relevance nationwide, particularly from his base in Lagos.
“This is not just a loss to Agbekoya; it is a loss to progressive thought, principled leadership and grassroots consciousness in Nigeria,” he said.
Chief Ashagidigbi also extended condolences on the passing of Iya Moni of Saki East, describing her as a woman of strength and service whose contributions to the Agbekoya family will remain evergreen.
“We mourn not one, but two pillars. Their legacies will speak louder than grief, and their sacrifices will continue to guide us,” he added.
He called on members of the Agbekoya Farmers’ Society of Nigeria across the country to remain calm, prayerful and united, assuring them that the ideals Dr. Ogunlana lived and died for would not be abandoned.
“Though death has silenced his voice, his legacy will continue to speak. We owe him the duty of unity, discipline and renewed dedication to the Agbekoya cause,” Chief Ashagidigbi concluded.
He prayed for divine comfort for the family of the deceased, the national leadership and members of the Society nationwide, asking God to grant eternal rest to the departed patriot.
