Willie Obiano Is Not Dead: Viral Social Media Report Debunked

By Feyisetan Hamzat

A viral post circulating on Facebook on Friday claimed that former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, had died in London after allegedly battling heart failure and complications from urinary cancer. The post, couched in emotional language and emojis, cited an unnamed “senior family source” and “medical officials in London.”

However, findings by News Hub reveal that the claim is false.

Sources close to the Obiano family confirmed that the former governor is alive, dismissing the rumour as “a complete fabrication” intended to cause unnecessary alarm.

As of the time of this report, neither the family nor the Anambra State Government has issued any statement announcing Obiano’s death. A check across reputable Nigerian media platforms also shows no credible report of such an incident.

The claim mirrors recent patterns of online hoaxes targeting prominent political figures, often driven by sensationalism and the absence of proper fact-checking.

The public is advised to disregard the rumour and refrain from sharing unverified information, especially concerning sensitive issues like health and death.
