PRESS RELEASE
AGBEKOYA FARMERS SOCIETY OF NIGERIA
The Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria, the Southwest warriors and Nigeria’s foremost self-determination group established in 1938, has raised strong alarm over the worsening insecurity across the country, particularly the recent attacks in Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, and Borno States.
This was contained in a communique issued on Sunday after an emergency security meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State. The statement was jointly signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the Agbekoya Farmers Society Worldwide, Deacon Olatunji Bandele, and the Oyo State Governor of the Society, High Chief Olatunde Bello Ashagidigbi.
According to High Chief Ashagidigbi, Agbekoya is deeply worried over the increasing cases of abductions, kidnappings, and killings of innocent Nigerians. He revealed that, as part of immediate response measures, the organisation has activated its trained community security personnel to support the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in identified flashpoint villages within Oyo State.
High Chief Ashagidigbi said:
> “Agbekoya condemns the collapse of Nigeria’s security architecture, which has left our villages, communities, and schools exposed to bandits and criminal herdsmen. In just a few weeks, the nation has witnessed distressing cases of mass abductions and killings.”
He highlighted some of the recent incidents, including:
The November 17 attack on Government Secondary School, Maga, Dakata in Wasagu LGA, where the Vice Principal was killed and 25 female students abducted.
The November 18 kidnapping of 33 worshippers from a CAC church in Eruku, Kwara State.
The November 21 invasion of Saint Mary Catholic School, Agwara–Papiri in Niger State, where 303 children and 13 teachers were abducted.
High Chief Ashagidigbi appealed to Southwest Governors to intensify their efforts in securing lives and property across the region, stressing that the public is anxious and needs strong governmental reassurance.
He added:
> “At a time like this, proactive leadership and tighter collaboration between government and communities are essential. As a grassroots organisation deeply connected to farmers and rural dwellers, Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria is fully ready to partner with security agencies in Oyo State to ensure the safety of lives and farmlands.”
The Agbekoya Governor also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, for his ongoing cooperation and commitment to ensuring that criminals find no safe haven in the state.
