IBADAN – The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the first Baámẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland, Oloye Saheed Oladele, has called on opposition politicians across the country to stop blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for every challenge confronting their parties and instead embrace accountability for internal crises.
Oladele made the call in a thought-provoking article titled “Before You Blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu For Your Party's Problems, Take SDP As A Case Study,” in which he examined the leadership challenges within the SDP and argued that many of the issues facing opposition parties are self-inflicted rather than externally orchestrated.
According to him, there is a growing tendency among opposition figures to attribute virtually every disagreement, leadership tussle, and organisational setback to President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a narrative he described as misleading and lacking factual basis.
Drawing from recent developments within the SDP, Oladele maintained that the party's leadership crisis arose from internal disagreements over party structure, leadership control, and the race for the 2027 presidential ticket, rather than any interference from the Presidency.
He explained that the dispute involving the party's National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, and other stakeholders stemmed from constitutional and administrative disagreements within the party, stressing that such issues should not be blamed on external forces.
"The truth is that many of the challenges confronting political parties today are products of their own actions and decisions. It is unfair and intellectually dishonest to attribute every internal disagreement to President Tinubu," he stated.
Oladele noted that while opposition parties have every right to criticise government policies and hold elected officials accountable, such criticism must be rooted in facts and not used as a convenient excuse for internal failures.
The former governorship candidate urged political leaders to focus on strengthening internal democracy, respecting party constitutions, and building institutions capable of managing differences without resorting to blame games.
He further called on aggrieved factions within the SDP to embrace reconciliation and place the party's collective interest above personal ambitions, warning that disunity could undermine the party's future prospects.
According to him, sustainable political growth can only be achieved through discipline, dialogue, accountability, and respect for established processes.
Oladele also advised opposition politicians to channel their energies towards developing credible alternatives, strengthening grassroots structures, and offering practical solutions to national challenges rather than seeking external explanations for self-created problems.
He concluded by urging political stakeholders across party lines to learn valuable lessons from the SDP experience and accept responsibility for their actions.
"Falsehood may travel for years, but the truth will eventually catch up with it," Oladele declared.
He reaffirmed his commitment to truth, fairness, and internal democracy, expressing confidence that the SDP would emerge stronger if its leaders prioritise unity, transparency, and constitutional order.
