Ibadan, Nigeria — October 10, 2025:
In a major political development, former lawmaker and influential Oyo politician, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, popularly known as “Alleluyah,” has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after several decades of active participation.
The senator made his decision known in a letter personally addressed to the PDP leadership, marking his first-ever exit from the party since its formation.
In the letter, Senator Agboola expressed deep gratitude to the party for the platforms and opportunities he enjoyed over the years. He also acknowledged the collective achievements recorded under the PDP’s leadership both in Oyo State and at the national level.
According to the letter, his decision to withdraw from party activities stemmed from his “future political pursuits”, which he described as a necessary step at this point in his career.
> “I wish to formally notify the party that I am stepping aside from my membership, effective 10th October 2025,”
the statement read in part.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for its support and goodwill throughout my years of service and wish the party well in its future endeavours.”
Senator Agboola, who once served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and a strong political voice in Oyo North, did not disclose his next political destination. However, close observers suggest that the move may signal a realignment ahead of the forthcoming election cycle in Oyo State.
The development has stirred reactions across the political landscape, as analysts note that Agboola’s departure could reshape the structure of the PDP in the state.
